As summer winds down and fall settles into Portland, our routines tend to change. Days get shorter, temperatures drop, and some of the outdoor activities we enjoyed all summer naturally become less frequent.

For many of us, fall also means returning to more structured routines. Work picks up, school is back in session, and time outside may become less of a priority. It's easy for regular movement to get pushed down the list.

But staying active doesn't have to mean maintaining your summer routine. Fall can be a good time to find new ways to keep your body moving.

Movement Doesn't Have to Look the Same All Year

Maybe your summer was filled with hiking, gardening, cycling, or long walks. As the weather changes, those activities may become less appealing or simply harder to fit into your schedule.

That doesn't mean movement needs to stop.

A walk around the neighborhood, a trip to the gym, some strength training, stretching at home, or simply taking more opportunities to move throughout the day can all help you maintain an active routine.

The goal is to find ways to keep moving that fit the season you're in and the life you're living.

Listen to What Your Body Is Telling You

A change in activity can also bring attention to aches, stiffness, or old injuries that may have been easier to overlook during the busier summer months.

You may notice that your back feels stiff after sitting at a desk again, your neck and shoulders are more tense, or an old knee or hip issue starts bothering you when your activity level changes.

These symptoms don't necessarily mean you need to stop moving. They may simply be a sign that something needs more attention.

At Corbett Hill Wellness Center, our approach to chiropractic care focuses on understanding why discomfort is occurring and helping patients move and function more comfortably. Depending on your needs, care may include chiropractic treatment along with manual therapy, mobility recommendations, or other therapies available at our clinic.

Make Movement Part of Your Fall Routine

You don't have to wait until January to get moving again.

Fall can be a great time to establish a realistic movement routine that you can carry through the rest of the year. Start with activities you enjoy, make them manageable, and pay attention to how your body responds.

Whether that means walking the neighborhood, getting back into strength training, heading out for a crisp fall hike, or simply making an effort to move more during your workday, consistency matters more than perfection.

Your routine may change with the seasons. Your commitment to moving well doesn't have to.

At CHWC, we're here to help you stay active, comfortable, and connected to the activities that matter to you throughout the year.
